Role overview
The purpose of this role is to support the VSO-Myanmar Country Office in the design and development of signature programmes for its Education, Health and Civil Society and Social Accountability programme areas. The volunteer will be responsible for leading processes to develop quality, evidence-based and integrated signature programmes using participatory research methods with communities and primary actors. The volunteer will work closely with programme managers and a local research institute providing leadership and coordinating programme development processes while ensuring quality assurance. The volunteer will provide hands-on technical support in programme analysis and design to ensure that VSO programmes are i) aligned with VSO core approaches (social inclusion & gender, resilience and social accountability) and People First Strategy; ii) integrated and coherent; and iii) demonstrate our approach of working with volunteers. The signature programmes will inform VSO’s strategic direction over the next three years. This position will be based at the VSO country office in Yangon but will involve regular travel to remote communities within Myanmar, as well as consultation meetings with other stakeholders. |
Skills, qualifications and experience required
Required work experience/skills: • Post-graduate degree in social science, development or related field • Commitment to community-based development and People First principles • Expert knowledge of programme design and development • Significant hands on experience of community-based participatory research methods and programme development • Skills in a range of programme development areas including: o Context mapping o Stakeholder mapping o Power analysis o Social inclusion and gender analysis o Social accountability o Resilience o Other participatory methodologies • Experience of working effectively with theories of change • Knowledge of developing monitoring and evaluation frameworks and conducting baselines • Ability to travel and work in challenging and remote locations • Excellent spoken and written English Desirable • Experience of working and living in Myanmar (or other Southeast Asian countries) is an advantage • Thematic expertise in one of the VSO-Myanmar programme areas: health, education or GBV • Experience of VSO programmes and approaches |
Allowance and accommodation All volunteers have an allowance paid in local currency. The allowance meets reasonable living expenses in country, but will not be enough to send money home. VSO works with some of the poorest communities in the world which means accommodation varies and will be basic. |
